Legotastic!

We have gone even more Lego crazy here if that can be at all possible!?

A while ago some Mindstorm Lego was donated by Weydon School, one of the ‘Partner Ghana’ (something Sabre was involved in starting) school’s from the UK.  As a lot of it also requires using a computer (which not all schools here have the use of yet), and the local Ghanaians haven’t even been exposed to Lego (or even, indeed, puzzles), it is waiting until it can be suitably introduced into schools.  In the meantime the boys get to try it out.  Lucky them!

It was like Christmas had come early.  Aubrey brought them a box each from the office, each one being different (Dacta & Robolab).  What excitement!

They got straight into it and before you could blink each had built one of the models.

The next morning they were up before dawn, one waking up everyone else – still pitch black, probably around 4.30/5am to get going and build some more. I was not amused, but at least it was quiet.

No sooner had one been built and I thought I’d take a picture, than it was dismantled and another built.

Each pack comes with four instruction booklets to build four things.  Bubba’s seem to be based on a funfair and even comes with a lego skeleton for the ghost ride!

He’s made the ‘bodgers’ (dodgems!) quite a few times.

I’m not sure what Finlay’s are supposed to mimic but they are vehicular, one which also includes working traffic lights and a moving drop down gate to use with the vehicle.

It says they are for 9 – 14 year olds but the boys have had no problem at all with them.  Perhaps because they build a lot of Lego or perhaps because the instructions are laid out in a format that they understand.  I don’t know, but I’m pretty impressed.

Trying to get them to do anything else at the moment has been tough, but I love that they are totally into something like this.

Maybe they’ll start to design their own ‘robots’ soon although they do have a love of following instructions.

And finally:

Whilst the boys were busy with Lego the little ones were…….bottom painting……
